The Importance of Scripture Memorization

That’s such a boring title, but I had nothing witty to say. Sorry.

For the last few weeks, I’ve been wrestling with several different topics of which I want to share with you. BUT…God quickly shut all of that down this morning as I was driving into the parking lot of the church. I got hit square in the head by the Lord speaking to me saying that it is important for me not to simply talk about a point and then find Scripture to back that opinion up. Rather, I need to allow Him to direct me to Scripture and allow the point to materialize more naturally. So that’s the purpose of this post.

If you read this blog regularly and you consider yourself a follower of Hope Worship Band and what we do, please commit yourself over the next week or two to memorizing this Scripture, which is quite powerful and telling of who God calls us to be.

9. [the power of God] who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began. 10. This has now been made evident through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who has abolished death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. 11. For this gospel I was appointed herald, apostle, and teacher. 12. and that is why I suffer these things. But I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to guard what has been entrusted to me until that day. 13. Hold on to the pattern of sound teaching that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 14. Guard, through the Holy Spirit who lives in us, that good thing entrusted to you. 2 Timothy 1:9-14

I am actually going to be asking our band and tech crew to commit this to memory, so hopefully, you’ll be able to go up to any one of them (or me) and ask them to tell it to you. [wink, wink]. Keep me posted on your progress!
