When the Pharisees heard how he [Jesus] had bested the Sadducees, they gathered their forces for an assault. One of their religion scholars spoke for them, posing a question they hoped would show him up: “Teacher, which command in God’s Law is the most important?”
Jesus said, “Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.’ This is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside it: ‘Love others as well as you love yourself.’ These two commands are pegs; everything in God’s Law and the Prophets hangs from them.” (Matthew 22:34-40 MSG)
If you’ve ever wondered what you’re called to do in life, this is it.
No more and no less.
It’s easy to get so distracted by life that we lose sight of these things. As a Church (the Body of Christ), we can become so consumed with our own house of worship that we forget that it’s not about who goes to this church or that church. It’s 100% about passionately loving God and others. Period. (Maybe this is only a problem in the south where churches are more plentiful than convenience stores).
Perhaps, that is what a lost and dying world is begging to see from us, His Church. Love.
Those are just my thoughts for the day.
